What is it?

Congenital or traumatic aesthetic alterations in the shape of the nose are a situation that generates problems in self-esteem, since the nose is the central structure of the face, and apart from its essential function, a nose that does not go according to the face generates a bad harmony in the shape of it.

Rhinoplasty focuses on modifying the external and internal structure of the nose, in order to improve facial aesthetics in general, in some cases it is necessary to also improve its function, which is done through an open approach to visualize and manage in better shape the nasal structure.

Alternative or additional treatments

Rhinoplasty is one of my Dr. Vargas signature procedures , handling the central structure of the face helps improve other parts of it at the same time. Rhinoplasty is usually combined with fat transfer to the face, chin augmentation with an implant or with hyaluronic acid or liposuction of the neck.

Candidates

Women or men who have conflicts with the shape of their nose, deviations from it or alterations to breathe.

Rhinoplasty

Benefits of ultrasonic rhinoplasty

As an expert plastic surgeon, I am excited to offer my patients the benefits of ultrasonic rhinoplasty. This innovative technique uses ultrasound energy to reshape the nose with a device called Piezotome, offering a number of advantages over traditional rhinoplasty.

  • Greater precision: Ultrasonic rhinoplasty allows for more precise and controlled cuts, reducing the risk of complications.

  • Less trauma: Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is a less invasive technique than traditional rhinoplasty, resulting in a faster and less painful recovery.

  • Less bleeding: Ultrasonic vibrations coagulate blood vessels as the cut is made, reducing bleeding during surgery.

  • Less inflammation: Ultrasonic rhinoplasty produces less postoperative inflammation than traditional rhinoplasty.

  • More natural results: The greater precision of the ultrasonic scalpel allows the surgeon to create more natural and harmonious results.

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is a good option for patients who are looking to improve the appearance and function of their nose, whether for aesthetic or functional reasons.

Importance of skin in rhinoplasty

As a board certified plastic surgeon, I have performed countless rhinoplasties throughout my career. I can say with certainty that skin plays a crucial role in the success of this surgery. The skin of the nose is thin and delicate, and its elasticity is essential for achieving a natural and harmonious result.

During rhinoplasty, incisions are made in the skin to access the bony and cartilaginous structure of the nose. The skin is stretched and folded to create the new desired shape. The elasticity of the skin is crucial for it to adapt to this new shape and heal properly.

If the skin is too thick or rigid, it may be difficult to stretch and fold, which can result in a nose with an artificial or unnatural appearance. On the other hand, if the skin is too thin, it may be more prone to visible scars or the development of imperfections on the surface of the nose.

To ensure an optimal result in rhinoplasty, it is essential to carefully evaluate the quality and elasticity of the patient's skin before surgery. In some cases, it may be necessary to perform additional procedures to improve the quality of the skin, such as fat injection or the use of skin rejuvenation techniques.

In conclusion, skin is a fundamental factor to consider in rhinoplasty. Its elasticity and quality play a crucial role in achieving a natural and harmonious result. As a board certified plastic surgeon, I always carefully evaluate the skin of my patients to ensure a successful and lasting result.

Recovery after rhinoplasty

The splint that will be placed on your nose at the end of the rhinoplasty should be worn for approximately 6-7 days.

In the postoperative period, the painkillers recommended by Dr. Vargas will control any discomfort that may arise. You won't experience pain per se, but rather just some discomfort.

During the first 24 hours after the nose surgery, it is advisable to rest to better manage discomfort and avoid bleeding.

You will notice bruising and swelling around your eyes. This is normal and may increase in the following days, but there is no need to be alarmed.

The nasal silicone tubes will be removed after 7 days. Sometimes they have to stay for longer periods (up to 3 weeks)

In most cases, the patient can perform sedentary work after 48 hours. You should not wear glasses, perform strenuous exercises, or blow your nose for approximately one month.

Avoid the sun or UV rays for a minimum period of three months after your rhinoplasty
