  6. 3 important things to consider before breast augmentation

What is it?

As puberty passes, the final size of the breasts will be practically defined. Therefore, the self-esteem of those women who did not achieve the expected development will be significantly and constantly diminished in many of them.

Breast implants are the best way to perform a breast augmentation quickly, safely, and with highly predictable results that achieve an increase in patient self-esteem from day 1. They can be placed on a submuscular or subglandular space.

Stitches removal

Absorbable sutures are used that do not require stitch removal

Anesthesia

General or deep sedation

Recovery time

2 weeks. Requires relative rest for 6 weeks.

Alternative or additional treatments

Breast augmentation with implants is usually accompanied by rhinoplasty when it is decided to operate on the face or buccal fat removal. Breast procedures such as breast lift can also be accompanied by breast implant augmentation and body contouring such as liposuction or abdominoplasty with liposuction and gluteal augmentation is also a combination of these procedures with breast augmentation (AKA mommy makeover).

Candidates

Women or men who are not satisfied with the size of their breasts, moderate or mild asymmetries, and breasts without breast ptosis (see breast lift).

When to choose submuscular vs subglandular breast implants?

Unveiling the Artistry: Submuscular vs. Subglandular Breast Implants

Greetings, curious minds and beauty enthusiasts! Today, we embark on a captivating journey into the world of breast augmentation, exploring the nuances of two prominent techniques that have graced countless lives with renewed confidence and self-assured allure. I am thrilled to guide you through the mesmerizing realm of submuscular and subglandular breast implant placement, where medical expertise converges with aesthetic artistry.

A Symphony of Science and Beauty

In the realm of aesthetic surgery, the choice between submuscular and subglandular breast implants is nothing short of orchestrating a symphony of medical science and artistic vision. As a world-class plastic surgeon, I am dedicated to understanding your unique aspirations, desires, and anatomy, to curate a harmonious masterpiece that aligns with your personal journey of transformation.

The Submuscular Symphony

This method involves positioning the implant beneath the pectoral muscle, embracing a natural rhythm that yields subtle elegance. The advantages are aplenty: reduced risk of visible rippling, enhanced mammography accuracy, and a potential decrease in capsular contracture (a condition where a thick capsule forms around the implant). This technique dances with finesse, offering a graceful balance that accommodates various body types and provides a soft, natural slope to the upper pole of the breast. Still, this technique is mostly for thin patients with slim to none breast tissue.

The Subglandular Sonata

Ah, the subglandular approach – a passionate crescendo that places the implant directly beneath the breast tissue, offering a pronounced silhouette. Think of it as an opera diva, captivating the audience with bold projection and undeniable presence. Subglandular implants can create a more dramatic enhancement, particularly for those seeking ample cleavage and striking contours. This technique often involves a shorter recovery period and less post-operative discomfort, making it a harmonious choice for some individuals.

The Harmony of Choice

But, dear reader, do not be swayed solely by the allure of one technique over the other. The path to your perfect symphony of beauty is a personalized journey, guided by my expertise and your desires. The harmony lies in a thorough consultation, where we delve into your aesthetic dreams, medical history, and anatomical structure. Whether it's the subtly nuanced tones of submuscular implants or the resounding resonance of subglandular implants, rest assured that together, we will craft a masterpiece that speaks volumes about your individuality and confidence.

As we conclude this enchanting exploration, remember that the world of aesthetic surgery is a canvas where science and art entwine. The differences between submuscular and subglandular breast implants offer distinct melodies that cater to your unique desires and body. The beauty of it all? You are the conductor, and I am your dedicated collaborator, committed to crafting a symphony that resonates with the essence of you.

Gummy bear implants

gummy bear implants

Gummy bear implants are silicone implants aimed for breast augmentation. They usually have the same shape than traditional breast implants. Still, the greatest difference with the rest of the implants is that gummy bear breast implants have thicker silicone gel, so it makes them a bit firmer. This does not alter the result of the surgery, it is just a different option when it comes to feel. Some patients prefer a more natural feel on their breast. Some others want to feel their breast to feel harder. When it comes to deciding what kind of implant a patient wants. gummy bear implants are a good option.

Tuberous breasts

Tuberous breast deformity (TBD) is a condition that affects the shape and development of the breasts. Unlike the common belief that it's simply a matter of size, TBD is a structural issue that can impact both physical appearance and self-confidence.

What is Tuberous Breast Deformity?

TBD occurs when the breast tissue develops abnormally during puberty. This can result in breasts that are:

  • Narrow at the base: The underside of the breast appears flat or      inverted.
  • Elongated: The      breast tissue extends too far downward.
  • Discrepancy in size and shape: The breasts may be uneven or asymmetrical.
  • Inverted or enlarged nipples: The nipple can appear flat or pulled inward.

The Impact of TBD

While TBD is a physical condition, its psychological effects can be significant. Many women experience body image issues, low self-esteem, and discomfort due to clothing fit. It's important to remember that you're not alone, and there are effective solutions available.

Treatment Options for Tuberous Breast Deformity

The best approach to correcting TBD often involves a combination of surgical techniques tailored to the individual patient. These may include:

  • Breast augmentation: To increase volume and improve overall shape.
  • Breast lift (mastopexy): To address sagging and improve breast      position.
  • Nipple reduction or repositioning: To correct nipple size and placement.
  • Tissue reduction: In some cases, excess tissue may need to be removed.

It's crucial to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon experienced in treating TBD. They can assess your specific condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan.

Capsular Contracture: A Concern for Breast Implants

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I understand the importance of providing comprehensive information to patients considering breast augmentation or already living with breast implants. One of the concerns that may arise post-surgery is capsular contracture, a condition that can affect the appearance and feel of breast implants.

Capsular contracture occurs when the scar tissue surrounding a breast implant tightens and contracts. While some level of scar tissue formation is normal and expected after breast augmentation, in cases of capsular contracture, the scar tissue becomes unusually thick, causing the breast to feel firm and potentially look distorted.

Understanding the potential causes of capsular contracture is crucial. While the exact cause isn't always clear, factors such as bacterial contamination, implant rupture, hematoma (collection of blood), and implant texture can contribute to its development. It's important to note that while capsular contracture can occur at any time after breast augmentation, it's more common within the first few years post-surgery.

Patients experiencing capsular contracture may notice changes in the appearance or feel of their breasts. These changes can range from increased firmness to visible distortion of the breast shape. In some cases, capsular contracture may cause discomfort or pain.

For patients concerned about capsular contracture, there are various treatment options available. The approach to treatment depends on the severity of the condition and the patient's individual circumstances. Treatment options may include medication, massage techniques, implant replacement, or surgical intervention to remove the scar tissue.

Prevention is always preferable to treatment. While there's no guaranteed way to prevent capsular contracture entirely, certain strategies can help reduce the risk. These include choosing a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, following post-operative care instructions diligently, attending regular follow-up appointments, and considering factors such as implant placement and texture.

As a plastic surgeon committed to patient education and safety, I encourage anyone considering breast augmentation or experiencing concerns related to breast implants to seek guidance from a qualified professional. By understanding the risks, being vigilant about post-operative care, and staying informed, patients can make empowered decisions about their breast health and well-being.

Remember, your health and satisfaction are paramount. Should you have any questions or concerns about capsular contracture or breast augmentation in general, do not hesitate to reach out. Together, we can navigate your journey towards the beautiful, natural-looking results you desire.
