5 most common wrong reasons why people get plastic surgery

1. To please someone else. This is the most common wrong reason for plastic surgery. People may feel pressured to get plastic surgery by their partners, family, or friends. They may also feel like they need to look a certain way to get ahead in their careers or to be accepted by society. However, plastic surgery should never be done for the sake of someone else. It should only be done if it is something that you truly want for yourself.

2. To fix a perceived flaw. Everyone has flaws, and plastic surgery cannot change all of them. If you are unhappy with a certain aspect of your appearance, it is important to remember that you are not alone. There are many people who feel the same way. However, plastic surgery is not always the answer. There are many other ways to improve your self-image, such as therapy, counseling, or joining a support group if the background reason is not entirely physical.

3. To escape from reality. Sometimes, people turn to plastic surgery as a way to escape from their problems. They may be unhappy with their lives, and they believe that plastic surgery will make them feel better. However, plastic surgery is not a solution to underlying emotional issues. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, or other mental health problems, it is important to seek professional help.

4. To keep up with the Joneses. We live in a society where beauty is often equated with success. People may feel like they need to get plastic surgery in order to keep up with their friends, family, or co-workers. However, it is important to remember that everyone is different, and there is no one standard of beauty. You should never feel pressured to change your appearance in order to fit in.

5. To have a quick fix. Plastic surgery is a major surgery, and it should not be taken lightly. It is important to remember that there are risks involved, and there is no guarantee that you will be happy with the results. If you are considering plastic surgery, it is important to do your research and talk to a qualified surgeon.

It is important to remember that plastic surgery is a personal decision. There is no right or wrong reason to get plastic surgery. However, it is important to be aware of the risks and to make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons. a y describe claramente los servicios que ofreces. Además, asegúrate de destacar un servicio especial.

Body Mass Index and body contouring procedures

BMI and body contouring surgery

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. It is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared. A BMI of 25 or higher is considered overweight, and a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.

BMI is an important factor in evaluating a patient's candidacy for body contouring procedures. Patients with a higher BMI are more likely to have complications from surgery, such as infection, bleeding, and wound healing problems. They are also more likely to regain weight after surgery.

For this reason, most plastic surgeons will not perform body contouring procedures on patients with a BMI of 31 or higher. Patients with a BMI of 30-35 may be considered for surgery only if they have already been treated with diet, excercise or have undergone a weight loss surgical procedure such as gastric sleeve or gastric bypass.

In addition to BMI, other factors that are considered when evaluating a patient's candidacy for body contouring procedures include:

  •     The patient's overall health
  •     The amount of excess fat or skin to be removed
  •     The location of the excess fat
  •     The patient's expectations for the outcome of surgery

If you are considering body contouring surgery, it is important to talk to a qualified and board certified plastic surgeon about your BMI and other health factors. The surgeon can help you determine if you are a good candidate for surgery and what the risks and benefits are.

Here are some additional tips for maintaining a healthy BMI:

  •     Eat a healthy diet that is low in calories and fat.
  •     Exercise regularly.
  •     Get enough sleep.
  •     Manage stress.
  •     Quit smoking.

By following these tips, you can improve your BMI and reduce your risk of health problems. You may also be more likely to have a successful outcome from body contouring surgery.

foods you should avoid prior to your surgical procedure

As an expert plastic surgeon deeply committed to your well-being and the success of your surgery, I'm here to shed some light on a crucial aspect of your preoperative preparation: your diet.

The foods you consume before a surgical procedure can have a significant impact on your body's response to the process, including the potential risk of bleeding. Today, let's explore five foods you should avoid to ensure a smooth path to successful surgery.

  1. Vitamin E-Rich Foods: While vitamin E is an essential nutrient, its anticoagulant properties can pose a challenge when it comes to surgical procedures. Almonds, spinach, and sunflower seeds, abundant in this vitamin, can increase the risk of bleeding during and after surgery. Consider temporarily excluding these foods from your diet in the weeks leading up to your procedure, under the guidance of your healthcare provider.

  2. Garlic and Onion: As much as we love the flavor they add to our meals, garlic and onion contain compounds that can affect blood clotting. These natural ingredients can disrupt the delicate balance your body requires for optimal surgical healing. Minimizing their consumption before surgery can help reduce the chances of bleeding and improve your overall recovery process.

  3. Fish Oil Supplements: Fish oil supplements, known for their omega-3 fatty acids, offer numerous health benefits. However, their anticoagulant properties can complicate surgical outcomes. Omega-3s can affect platelet function, increasing the risk of bleeding. It's advisable to consult with your surgeon before discontinuing any supplements and to suspend the intake of fish oil several weeks before the procedure.

  4. Alcohol: While a glass of wine may be relaxing in other contexts, alcohol can negatively affect blood clotting and interfere with anesthesia during surgery. Abstaining from alcohol in the days leading up to the procedure is a wise choice to ensure optimal surgical conditions and minimize the risk of bleeding.

  5. Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): While not exactly a food, it's essential to mention the need to avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen and aspirin before surgery. These common pain relievers can inhibit blood clotting and increase the risk of bleeding. Consult with your surgeon for alternative pain management strategies at least 10 days prior to surgery.

In Conclusion:Your health and well-being are my top priority, and the choices you make before your surgical procedure can play a vital role in your success. By consciously avoiding these foods and substances that increase the risk of bleeding, you're taking a proactive step to ensure a smooth surgical journey. Always remember to work closely with your surgeon, who will guide you in making the best decisions based on your unique situation.

I wish you a safe and successful surgical experience!

Sincerely, Dr. Edgar Vargas

5 tips to minimize surgical site infection risk

As a board certified plastic surgeon, I've seen firsthand how meticulous pre- and post-operative care can significantly reduce the risk of infection after cosmetic surgery. Here are my top five tips to help you minimize your risk and ensure a smooth recovery:

1. Choose a Board-Certified Surgeon:The most crucial factor in preventing infection is selecting a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon. A skilled surgeon adheres to strict sterilization protocols and has the expertise to identify and address potential complications early on.

2. Prioritize Pre-Operative Hygiene:

Before your procedure, maintain excellent hygiene. This includes:

  • Showering: Take a shower with antibacterial soap the night before surgery.
  • Skin Preparation: Avoid applying makeup, lotions, or perfumes to the surgical site on the day of surgery.
  • Hair Removal: If hair removal is necessary, opt for clipping rather than shaving to minimize skin irritation.

3. Adhere to Post-Operative Instructions:

Your surgeon will provide specific post-operative care instructions. Follow these guidelines diligently to reduce infection risk:

  • Medication: Take prescribed antibiotics as directed to prevent bacterial growth.
  • Wound Care: Keep the surgical site clean and dry. Follow your surgeon's instructions for dressing changes and wound cleaning.
  • Avoid Touching the Wound: Refrain from touching the surgical site to minimize the risk of introducing bacteria.

4. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle:A strong immune system is your body's natural defense against infection. Consider these lifestyle tips:

  • Nutrition: Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and protein to support your body's healing process.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and promote healing.
  • Rest: Get adequate sleep to allow your body to rest and recover.

5. Monitor for Signs of Infection:Be aware of potential signs of infection, such as:

  • Redness: Increased redness around the incision site.
  • Swelling: Excessive swelling or tenderness.
  • Drainage: Pus or other discharge from the wound.
  • Fever: Elevated body temperature.

If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your surgeon immediately. Early intervention can prevent the infection from worsening.

By following these expert tips and working closely with your surgeon, you can significantly reduce your risk of infection and enjoy a successful recovery.
